Delimmas of a fat black girl in the hip hop generation...
I want a puffer coat. Its nice and warm, and I prefer the hip hop inspired gathered puffer coat that is oh so curvy girl friendly... The thing is... Babyphat is unfortunately unreliable in its so called "plus size" sizes. The plus sizes are cut oddly and the coats are mad restrictive (or ridiculously loose) regardless of thier 1x 2x 3x labels... This I learn as I try on the new coats on sale at Ashley Stewart. However not only does Nelly's Applebottoms coat fit perfectly for this plus size girl, but they are better priced too! (However, Applebottoms doesn't have any plus size models to show them off... only white decapitated mannequins... whereas babyphat actually hires *a* plus size model for the website). This... from a woman who has sworn off Nelly products since his actions surrounding the Nelly protest. (PUNK!!) Can I get some pro fat feminists to comment on this issue? Do I have to get skinny to maintain my alliance? Labels: culture, fashion, fatness, hip hop, music uttered by a black girl at 8:12 AM.

i honor your commitment to your intention, sis, i really do. but it's not like you're saying, " i know what i promised, but i have to get that single 'Grills' cause it's so hot!" i give a good damn about nelly, but it's about to be cold - like this winter is suppose to be serious. in my erea, the hawk is already out! so say a few hail marys, write a critic of "money maker" and buy the coat that will keep you warm!
I was so shocked when I saw the Nelly "Tip Drill" video. I know he is not a consious rapper, but at the same time he is not 50 cents either. Personally, I up against the wall on this one.

FYI for readers the last sentence in this blog is sardonic. The idea that any woman has to get skinny for any ideology is inherently anti-feminist.

benny1You know my no label wearing a$$! I say screw the label debate and keep yourself alive with a no label warm coat. Then go to an African seamstress to have her sew on a sick *original* pattern on it and make the name for yourself that you deserve. Just an idea :)
you could get your guerilla on and steal it! you wouldn't be a financial supporter and you'd have a coat that firts, you could also hide the label
I was just sayin the same thing last week. Baby Phat n dem dont cater to us Plus size women. Those x sizes are jokes. Maybe we should get a petition...
